After a one month long artist in residence program in Maribor (Slovenia), hosted by Guest Room Maribor, Pekarna Magdalenske mreže, Hleb Theatre from Belgrade has presented on the 13th of August a new performance which was a product of their work in Slovenia.

the welcome

The concert performance titled THE WELCOME is a play examining the revolutionary ideas and enthusiasm generated in Yugoslavia (SFRJSocialist Federate Republic of Yugoslavia) during and after the Second World War, through the reinterpretation of songs from the National Liberation Struggle (NOB) and the prism of a bitter awakening in which we now find ourselves, in a world of neoliberal capitalism and new colonialism of the XXI century. It is also inspired by the play „Waiting for Godot“ by Samuel Becket.

Performed by Jugoslav Hađžić, Anastasia Tasić and Sanja Krsmanović Tasić, who is also the director of the piece, the prepremiere was performed in the beautiful building of an old casino built in the begining of the 20th century, which now hosts the Salon Uporabnih Umetnosti.

After the first presentation of the work in progress in Maribor, the performance was shown at the Kopergraund Festival in Koper, organized by Marko Brecelj, a legend of the Yygoslavian rock scene. In August, it was performed at the Festival Patosoffiranje in Smederevo. In October last year the performance Sisters in Arms, a collaboration of Hleb Teatar and AKE AKE Theatre Company from New Zealand had a great success in festivals in New Zaeland, as well as in Belgrade where it premiered as a part of Bitef Poliphony.
